Welcome to the wonderful world of Outreach Education and Program Management at the Community Cancer Center. Volunteers are a valuable resource to any organization but we like to think of our Program Volunteers as being “Out of This World Awesome”! Together we will get to do some amazing outreach in our community and have loads of fun. Now, to give you a little back story into what we do …
In 2015 the Community Cancer Center began the development and coordination of several interrelated programs simultaneously to raise cancer risk awareness and develop collaborative relationships between organizations to promote the mission.
The program manager and our group of volunteers carry out the CCC’s mission, coordinating objectives, strategies, and goals to manage efficient, well-run programs that have a positive impact on the population which each program or event targets.
Today our Outreach Education | Program Management and Patient Resource programs have aided in the establishment of provider engagement and the consistent delivery of outreach education and awareness into our local communities.
Our comprehensive array of services support our patients during treatment, recovery and into survivorship and supports the community at large by the promotion of awareness of cancer risks that can be minimized with healthy lifestyle changes. Currently our programs include; medical nutrition counseling, patient navigation, monthly cancer support groups, tobacco cessation classes, tobacco cessation weekly support group, youth focused tobacco education in our middle schools, annual breast cancer survivors conference, breast cancer awareness event, prostate cancer awareness event and various educational tabling events throughout the year.
In FY2016/17 the CCC spent over 370 face-to-face hours delivering our awareness messages to the population of Douglas County. Collectively, in our programs, we were able to engage with 24,757 individuals. It has been the coordinating and prioritizing of community resources across programs, events and projects and managing links between potential collaborations and partnerships with other organizations that has made our outreach a success. With each outreach program, or awareness event, we incorporate the assistance of community volunteers who share the same passion as our organization.
