FOCUS ON HOPE 5k & 1mile Fun Run/Walk

9:00 am Race Start
Community Cancer Center

Focus on Hope 5k & 1m Fun Run/Walk is the Community Cancer Center’s annual cancer awareness and cancer risk management education and fundraising event.

Unlike other cancer related campaigns, 100% of the proceeds raised for Focus on Hope remain in Douglas County to benefit our community. Your support dollars help community members with cancer treatment access, cancer risks awareness, and community education through our outreach programs.

We enable our community to Focus on Hope by developing outreach programs that meet the objectives and strategies that provide our community with cancer risk awareness messages and understand how to minimize their cancer risks by developing healthy lifestyle habits.

In the past decade the Community Cancer Center has treated thousands of patients and waived over 2 million dollars in treatment services. Our Focus on Hope goes beyond treatment in many ways:
  • Last year the Community Cancer Center provided over 450 face-to-face hours delivering our awareness and healthy lifestyle messages to  our patients and the Douglas county residents.
  • We engaged more than 25,000 community members through our programs and awareness campaigns
  • And, currently promote more than 25 community outreach programs, events or resources that aid cancer patients during treatment, cancer survivors and community members.
  • Most importantly, over the past decace, we have provided more than $3,125,000.00 in services to individuals in need.

Can I donate to the event?
Absolutely! We are happy to accept donations during registration, at the event or as a walk-in anytime. Simply fill out the donation amount when registering or let the staff know you wish to donate and how much when you visit us.
Do I have to pay a fee to participate?
Yes. The event is a fundraising and awareness campaign. Your entry fee covers the cost of the event and the access, outreach and awareness the CCC provides in our community.
Are young children allowed to participate in the events?
Yes. Children are allowed to participate in our events. If the child is under the age of 18 a parent or guardian must sign a release of liability waiver upon registering.
Do young children have to pay a registration fee to participate in the 5k or 1 mile event?
If the child is participating and wishes to have a bib number, finisher medal and finisher photo then a registration fee applies. If a child is walking in the event with an adult and does not have a bib number then they will allowed to walk the route, however, upon approaching the finish corral they exit to the spectator area and not enter the finisher area. The finisher area is reserved for participants who have paid a fee for a finish time and finisher photo.

Is there a history of race times?
Yes. We have posted a history of finisher times for events that timing was taken. To view the history visit: 2014FOH5kResults (not available),  2015FOH10k&5kResults2016FOH5kResults2017FOH5kResults2018FOH5kResults
Is there a fee for parking?
Parking for this event is free. CHI Mercy has sponsored parking in the overflow lot, directly across the CCC campus off Mercy Drive.
Are bicycles allowed?
Please, no bicycles, scooters, skate boards, roller blades etc. Because of the dynamics of 5k running events, these mentioned items pose as a safety risk to the other event attendees.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes. K9 are allowed to run/walk the course with their owner. ALL K9 must remain leashed at all times. It is the responsibility of the K9 owners to remove any fecal matter left by their animal.
I didn’t follow the route and went too far. Can I get my time adjusted?
No. The route maps are clearly posted and route instructions are given to all participants at the start of the event. Along the route there are arrows and course marshals to guide the participants. Each year we have a few individuals who run off course because they either didn’t listen to route instructions or used headphones while running and didn’t pay attention to the course marshal.
I cannot make packet pick up on the day before the event. Is there an onsite pick up spot?
Yes. We have onsite pick up the morning of the event.
Can I buy an event shirt the day of the event?
Most likely we will not have an excess of event T’s. If there is extra merchandise for purchase it will be located at the packet pickup area.
